Elliot is a very fast learner. Sometime I’ll get a decent shot of her “dance” trick.. it is very cute. She started doing it all on her own too, she likes to show it off at Petsmart.
If anyone is curious about how to teach your dog a certain trick, leave a comment and I can make a video of the training.

okay so i have a real problem. i live in an apartment with my boyfriend and our lab mix puppy. we got her in january when she was 11 weeks old and she still isnt potty trained. here’s the issue…my boyfriend has been letting her go potty on our balcony! i have tried telling him that he needs to stop doing that and start taking her out front but he doesnt listen. me and boyfriend have opposite schedules so he’s here and i’m not and when i get home he leaves. he still lets her potty on the balcony. he just leaves the door open for her all day. i hate that. summer is coming up and i want to do things outside, have people over, bbq and i dont want it smelling like dog pee and poop. i always take her out the front door to go potty but she just want to play. i take her out, tell her ‘go potty’ and wait in one spot but she wont go. so i bring her inside, put her in her crate for 10 minutes and repeat the cycle. i feel bad cause i know she has to go but she doesnt get it. she still has accidents in the house so she’s not completely potty trained to the balcony so i want to stop it now. i’m going to get my boyfriend on the same page but now i just need some help on transitioning her to the front door. she’s never whined to go outside and i want her to tell me when she has to go potty. this is my first puppy so i need some help. please and thanks
sorry so long people
lol. thanks! you helped alot. i just started this morning and she’s already sitting at the front door when she wants out. she doesnt always potty but it will take time…boyfriend will take a little longer
First off when you take her out, walk her, don’t just stand there. Exercise will help stimulate a pup/dog to go. This is how I train a pup:
The first thing to remember about house training a puppy is there ability to hold themselves is limited. A rule of thumb is they can hold "it" usually 1 hour for each month of age. 2 months old = 2 hours, 3 months old = 3 hours, etc. When your puppy wakes up (morning, nap, whatever) the pup has to go, right then! Take the pup out. When the pup eats or drinks, it has to go, take the pup out. After exercise (play), take the pup out. When the pup does it’s thing outside praise it. A lot. Tell the pup how good, how smart it is. You have to pay attention to the pups "looking for it’s spot" behavior. When you see that behavior indoors, whisk the pup out. If you catch the pup in the act, simply tell it "NO!" and whisk it outside. If you find a puddle or pile after the fact, clean it up with an enzyme cleaner (pet food store) get a newspaper and hit…. yourself in the head and say "I should have been paying more attention." Daytime training they get pretty fast. Night time training is easier if you crate train the pup. Also remember the one hour/one month rule. You will have to get up through the night to take the pup out. Good luck
Now, how to train the b/f…..I haven’t a clue

Wow do you have some work ahead of you. Part of it is regulating how much food and water you put down for him to eat. Puppies that young can’t hold their bladder for very long so you need to figure out a way to take him out every hour. Say "ready to go potty outside?". Grab the leash. Eventually he will either come to you or you just have to say "outside". Every time you take him out, take him to the same spot so he will know what to do. After each time he does it outside in the right spot, have a party. PRAISE YOUR PUPPY. Give him a treat. Dogs love to please and as soon as they know that it gives you pleasure to go at the right time and place, they have a better chance of doing it.
Whenever he is inside, do not leave him unattended. Keep him to one room. Do not let him out of your sight. Eventually it will get the idea. Google dog training and you can also learn about crate training, which is also a great idea if you want the dog inside a lot. It is going to take a lot of time and patience but he will figure it out. You just have to make sure you are paying attention. Most of the time, you have no one else but yourself to blame if he goes in the house. GOOD LUCK!
