i dont have any experience with mummy bags and i dont know if i like not having the room. i mostly plan to use my bag in the winter or in an ice shanty on a cot. what do you guys think???

what is better and why? im leaning towards the coleman one because of the room and the flannel. what do you think???

10 points to best answer<<<
i dont know anything about sleeping bags. but i imagine the mummy bag to be more wet and sticky once you get warm. i really dont like using syntetic bags in the summer. am i wrong?

I’m going to be camping northern wisconsin in a portable ice shanty with a heater. I dont know how well it will hold heat yet but its not like im planning to be camping completely exposed to the elements. What are youre experiences with mummy bags in the cold as opposed to the coleman-like ones??

but on the box this Quest bag says:
3.85 pounds of THERMOLITE Quallo fill (high loft performance insulation?)

comfort rated -15 degrees F

68D 210T diamond ripstop on outer shell

70D 210T nylon taffeta liner

internal shoulder collar, full length draft tube

doulbe layer offset quilt construction

so youre saying these synthetic mummy bags are the better buy?

A synthetic mummy bag will keep you warmer and drier than a cotton rectangular bag. The Coleman bag is heavy, and if it gets wet it won’t dry until you get home and meanwhile the wet cotton will suck the heat right out of you. Not good in winter. Quest isn’t a good brand either, but at least it looks synthetic even though there aren’t any specs given, a huge warning sign.

These bags are mostly 0 degree, but around the same price and from decent brands like Kelty and Slumberjack.

You’d do well to spend a little more and get a better synthetic mummy from North Face, Mountain Hardware, Marmot, or REI brand. http://www.rei.com/product/746475

If you’re sleeping on a cot you should put a 1" or more closed cell foam pad underneath you to prevent conductive heat loss from the cold air flowing underneath.

Anything under a 20 degree bag is overkill in the summer, at least here in the California Sierra. A 0 degree bag would be for winter only. If you’re sweating inside your bag, you should get your head out of the hood, remove some under clothes, unzip it, or lay it over you as a blanket.

Does anybody know hot to roll up the Coleman Hibernation 40-Degree Rectangular Queen Size Sleeping Bag?

I can’t figure out how to roll up the sleeping bag using those strings. I tried every way but didn’t work! Anyone has the same sleeping bag?

Lay it flat, fold the sides inward (to meet in the middle), then fold in half, making sure the strings are on the bottom (closest to the floor), begin rolling from the opposite end of the bag, Roll it tightly. When you get to the end, pull the strings around the rolled up bag. Good Luck!

Is it okay to stuff a mummy sleeping bag into a stuff bag?

I just recently purchased a fine coleman mummy sleeping bag. Would it be safe to stuff it into the stuff bag or do I really have to take the time to fold the sleeping bag air tight shut and then place it into the stuff bag?

I don’t want to damage my sleeping bag because it was so expensive. I would like to take care of it as much as possible.

When you are storing your sleeping bag the best thing to do is to hang it up in the closet not stuffed in the stuff sack. If you dont have room in your closet you can lay it flat under your bed. My last resort for storing it would be to get an XXL pillow case and put in there loosely as possible.

You do not want to store the sleeping bag tightly stuffed in the stuff sack otherwise the insulation will become damaged and you will loose loft. Its ok to just stuff in there for the trip but it`s usually the last thing I pack (I have a separate sleeping bag compartment accessible from outside the pack) and the first thing I take out after my tent (well I use a hammock now) is setup.
